Shabbatical in Progress
I love writing Sabbath Thoughts.
Every post I write challenges me to look at the timeless and powerful truth of God’s Word from a new angle or in a new light. It’s easy for me to see how a person could do this for multiple lifetimes and still never exhaust the depth or breadth of the wisdom contained in the Bible.
But the other big reason I love writing Sabbath Thoughts is…well, you guys. There’s nothing quite like logging in to Facebook and seeing the latest post making the rounds on my newsfeed and knowing all those likes and shares are stemming from a sense of connection. A like or a share means something in that post resonated with someone, meant something to someone, and getting to be part of that is incredibly special to me.
That said, I’m a terribly slow writer. Like, spectacularly slow. I spend a lot of time staring at a blank screen, endlessly rearranging words and phrases in my head until they come together in a way I’m happy with. That’s not a problem in and of itself, but I’ve found it to be a time-intensive process that can easily encroach on other important areas of my life. Like, for instance, if my wife and I were to move halfway across the country so I could start a new job in a new place surrounded by a new culture and new people, then devoting my every spare moment toward that weekend’s blog would probably be something of a strain. You know, hypothetically.
The point I am, by degrees, coming to, is that I need to put Sabbath Thoughts on hold for a little while. It’s not shutting down, it’s not going anywhere, and neither am I. I just need a little break from posting every week while I give some much-needed attention to some more important areas in my life. I’m taking a Shabbatical, if you’ll pardon the pun.
What does this mean for you?
Well, for starters, you might have noticed “Midweek Musings” popping up every Wednesday night on the Sabbath Thoughts Facebook page. Those have been generating some good conversation, and my plan is to keep them going during the break. I’ll see what I can do about cleaning up some of the older blogs and reposting them on the Facebook page, as well.
If you want to stay updated, be sure to subscribe to email updates (which you can do through the little widget on the sidebar or the bottom of the page). I’ll post another update when it’s time to resume the regular schedule—but right now, I have no idea when that will be.
