This book is so practical in learning to live a Christian life .Verse 10 jumps at me in that we are to humble ourselves before the Lord and He will lift you up. Does that mean at the resurrection? Or does that mean emotionality, physically or financially at the the present time ? Either way our Heavenly Father wants us to come to him in the right attitude while trying to live the right way, God way
James 4:15 reminds us to include God in our plans. The phrase” God willing” is well known to many Christians, so here is a reminder.
I talked recently with a 96 year-old member and he used the expression 3 times in a five minute conversation!
Robert, I had the same thought as I was reading chapter 4 this morning. The book of Proverbs says to acknowledge God in all our works. I think verse 15 refers to that as well. If we don’t include God in our plans, we may be doing something or going a certain way that, while not wrong, isn’t what God intended for us. Every time I read this chapter, I pause to examine my own way and make sure it’s aligned with the instructions God inspired James to write.
:1-2 – This has been a verse I’ve been dwelling on for a while after going over Mr. Johnson’s FI class on the general epistles. How many times has this been the source of arguments I get into? Is it because I want MY way, because I’m not receiving what I want?
:13-14 – I can’t count the times through my life that I’ve said “I will never….” and God says, “Oh yeah? We’ll see about that.” 🙂
The book of James is an amazing book for learning.
Get off the fence. Pick a side. “Both” is not an option. Reminds me of Elijah on Mt. Carmel: “How long will you waver between two opinions?” So easy to try and keep our feet in both worlds, though.
And then that reminder that we’re just mist—here and then gone. What am I doing with that time?

But he giveth more grace. Wherefore he saith, God resisteth the proud, but giveth grace unto the humble. James 4 : 6
A favorite verse. Hang my hat on it.
“Friendship with the world is enmity with God.”
