As I have been thinking about the up coming Passover and Holy days , this verse jumps at me :6 in mercy and truth Atonement is provided for inquiry and by the fear of the LORD one departs from evil. How merciful Our Lord is to die for us when we don’t deserve it.
Proverbs 16:10 uses the word “divination” in the NKJV, but it looks like the word could be translated “oracle” or “divine decision.” The king is sometimes seen as speaking for God, in which case he needs to be careful and wise in his judgments.
Proverbs 16:7. I love this verse. It is not always the case for people (David comes to mind. His enemies were usually at not peace with him), but it is not for a lack of an individual’s heart or character, nor is it that God cannot do it.
I think about verse 31 a lot—there’s such a pressure from society to look a certain way. So many people are embarrassed about their hair turning gray—but here it’s called a crown of glory. It ought to be beautiful and honorable when one of God’s people is given that crown 🙂
Proverbs 16:27-28 27 An ungodly man digs up evil,
And it is on his lips like a burning fire.
28 A perverse man sows strife,
And a whisperer separates the best of friends.
32 …And he who rules his spirit than he who takes a city.
Over the years, unfortunately I have been on both sides of these Proverbs (speaking out of turn and being spoken about).
Oh, how I have now been striving to fulfill v32 to walk away and not get involved in negativity and gossip, learning to rule my spirit. Keeping mindful to remember those things that God says He hates and to THINK before I speak! Is what I am about to say:
T – True
H – Helpful
I – Inspiring
N – Nice
K – Kind
