There is so much in this proverb that I could be all day just thinking of each verse and examples of lives that follow the way of Life and those who don’t. The verse that struck me was :16 He who keeps the commandment keeps his soul but he who is careless of his ways will die. How many times do I get busy and distracted and careless and not do the right thing ? More than I want to admit.
This time of year is wonderfully hard as I look at my life and the where I need to change and Gods never failing mercy and awesome promises

Proverbs 19:14 is a great reminder! Proverbs 19:25 is interesting because we have seen this type of Proverb before where rebuke is a benefit to the wise, but even blows upon a scoffer do not teach a lesson. This verse is slightly different because the scoffer is struck and the “simpleton/simple” person learns from it, not the scoffer. It really brings home to me the fact that some correction, encouragement, and help will not be accepted or understood by some who are closed-minded.

Reminds me of the more modern proverb: “This life’s hard, but it’s harder if you’re stupid.”

I am in my latter days – As I look back over my life there are things I wish I knew better at the time and did differently. I look forward to the resurrection where I will be able to explain & make amends, and hug those who have gone before me…

    Proverbs 19:

21 There are many plans in a man’s heart,
Nevertheless the LORD’s counsel—that will stand.

20 Listen to counsel and receive instruction,
That you may be wise in your latter days.

26 He who mistreats his father and chases away his mother
Is a son who causes shame and brings reproach.

It’s hard for me to be generous when I don’t feel like I have much. Mary is always better at that than me. But verse 17 is a great reminder that we aren’t just giving things away—we’re lending to God, and God promises to repay.
