Proverbs 26:1-12 is one of my favorite sections of Proverbs. Often it seems that many of the Proverbs stand alone, meaning chapters don’t always feel like they have an overall theme or message. To me it seems like many verses could be quoted out of context because there is not always a clear context. There are exceptions as we have seen and the beginning of Proverbs 26 is one of those. We get a long list of proverbs that are related to a foolish person. It builds up this long list to end it with verse 12. “Do you see a man wise in his own eyes? There is more hope for a fool than for him.” That jumped out at me. Perhaps it is because I can struggle with pride from time to time and it is better to be foolish. It is not saying we should all take foolishness as the goal but it makes us consider how dangerous pride is.

Thank you, Jacob, for your insight into this chapter. Pride and self-righteousness are sooo insidious. That is one reason why it is so important to bring every thought into captivity. Have a blessed day as we all prepare spiritually for the upcoming Holy Day Season
