Hebrews 4:9 is a good reminder that the Sabbath is still an important part of God’s plan (the word is literally “sabbath rest”), but I think the more important part of the chapter is that it points towards a FUTURE rest we’re all striving to enter—one we can fail to enter if we follow the Israelite example of disobedience and disbelief.
If the Sabbath is a wonderful blessing, hire much more so the future rest God has prepared for His people!
The Promise of Rest
1 Therefore, since a promise remains of entering His rest, let us fear lest any of you seem to have come short of it. 2 For indeed the gospel was preached to us as well as to them; but the word which they heard did not profit them, not being mixed with faith in those who heard it.
Do I come short? Hearing is not enough, I must be doing. Faith is needed and having faith is more than having belief in God’s word, plan, and promises. When He returns will Christ find faith? We need to prepare for the perilous times of persecution ahead, praying for God’s guidance and protection. Being faithfully willing to go through whatever He allows for our ultimate good
Encouragement and hope
