This chapter is again just packed with layers of meaning. The interplay of faith and hope made me ask, what is the difference between the two? We know from Corinthians that faith, hope and love are paramount. Here is what the internet told me:

“In the Bible, faith is the present (now) assurance and conviction in God’s character and Word, while hope is the confident, patient expectation of future blessings or fulfillment (Heb 6:19). Faith is the foundation, often described as the “substance” of what is hoped for (Heb 11:19), bringing unseen realities into the present, whereas hope focuses on things to come (Jer 19:11).”

    Something to think about 🤔.

Remember, also that hope, like faith, must be built up upon the promises of God.

Hebrews 6:19-20 has always been one of my absolute favorite scriptures. Having our hope as “a sure and steadfast anchor of the soul” is such a beautiful image. Something that keeps us steady and prevents us from drifting (2:1).

Also, the promises are inherited “through faith and patience.” It’s hard to be patient when you’re clinging to what’s coming, but the two must work in tandem.

This year my wife and I went to Branson for the Presidents Day weekend, the theme was “Lukewarm or On Fire”.
Hebrews 6:1,11-12 reflects on that theme, we start with the elementary principles of Christ, but we have to keep growing from there and not become sluggish in our growth. This chapter is admonishing us to keep moving forward, don’t fall prey to the world we live, as I think a lot about the future ahead of us and my/our Father’s expectations, the family members that are not in the church and the desire to see them in the future and help them, we have to finish this journey. The events of scripture being fulfilled now and on into the future pales in comparison to what lays ahead of us. Hebrews 6 gives support to keep moving forward.

11 And we desire that each one of you show the same diligence to the full assurance of hope until the end, 12 that you do not become sluggish, but imitate those who through faith and patience inherit the promises.

Not become slug. Yikes sometimes I am completely the opposite! I tend to get very intense about things I have studied and learned from. I find that I cause offense to others like I am judging them. But that is not my intent at all – I just want to share what has helped me, individually. I must learn to share with God my enthusiasm and learn to have a calm, quiet, patient demeanor with others, even brethren. But I’m so hungry to share. I pray that He will help me be who He wants me to be
