Halfway through the letter, we get to “Now this is the main point” 😅 An important reminder to read scripture in its context and not cherry-pick verses. The more familiar we are with the overall framework, the better we can understand the individual sentences!

In verse 10, the new covenant is defined by God putting His laws in our hearts and minds. Fascinating that the new covenant is often styled as superseding those laws—they’re described here as a central feature! So verse 13 can’t be about God’s commandments becoming obsolete and passing away.

The earthly tabernacle was a “copy and shadow” (verse 5) of a heavenly reality. What replaced it was not a total reinventing of what came first, but something deeper and more profound that mirrors the first, this time with “better promises” (verse 6) than the first could offer.

    Chapter 8

10 For this is the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel after those days, says the LORD: I will put My laws in their mind and write them on their hearts; and I will be their God, and they shall be My people.
11 None of them shall teach his neighbor, and none his brother, saying, ‘Know the LORD,’ for all shall know Me, from the least of them to the greatest of them.
12 For I will be merciful to their unrighteousness, and their sins and their lawless deeds I will remember no more.”

Oh how I long for this day as I’m sure all of God’s people do – the true reality. the true meaning of life. Well basically THE TRUTH! Someday all will understand. My parents were so hurt when I left the Catholic Church bringing shame upon a family with 2 priests and 1 nun – I feel like Joseph did when he met with his brothers. I can finally tell them – You meant me harm, but God had a purpose for my life and yours.
