Verses 10-11 are a good reminder that there’s a time to put an end to dialogue. You can be right and not win an argument—there’s a time to say, “Look, you’re clearly just spoiling for a fight, and I’m done talking about this.”

That’s a step that would be waaaaay outside my comfort zone, but I can see the wisdom in it. I’m just glad I’ve never had to do it!

I’m moved by verse :14 to maintain good works and to meet urgent needs of others. I can sometimes get caught up with my own struggles I don’t see the needs around me. Do I maintain good works or do I just give “ lip service “ I m a work in progress and I’m thankful God is patient!

One thing that has been jumping out at me in this book is the idea of teaching.

Titus is told to appoint leaders and then make sure those leaders can rebuke and instruct.

It says “And let our people *learn* to devote themselves to good works, so as to help cases of urgent need, and not be unfruitful.”

Chapter 2: “For the grace of God has appeared, bringing salvation for all people, *training* us to renounce ungodliness and worldly passions, and to live self-controlled, upright, and godly lives in the present age…”

I love that it isn’t just “Whip these people into shape,” but “You need to stop doing that and we all need to *learn* to be Christlike. It doesn’t just happen.”

Titus 3:1-7 = This section brought me back to where I was before our Great God in His love and mercy called me into His truth and Church way back in October 1973.
This helps me deal with people I encounter who are ignorant of God’s truth at this time. Rather than judge, condemn, ridicule, look down on others my mind goes to “By the Grace of God go I.” Especially those who are Babes in Christ – I remember the patience shown to me and also take heart in knowing we never stop learning, and I have much to learn in grasping a deeper understanding for I also am still a babe in Christ by God’s standard.

“1 Remind them to be subject to rulers and authorities, to obey, to be ready for every good work, 2 to speak evil of no one, to be peaceable, gentle, showing all humility to all men. 3 For we ourselves were also once foolish, disobedient, deceived, serving various lusts and pleasures, living in malice and envy, hateful and hating one another. 4 But when the kindness and the love of God our Savior toward man appeared, 5 not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to His mercy He saved us, through the washing of regeneration and renewing of the Holy Spirit, 6 whom He poured out on us abundantly through Jesus Christ our Savior, 7 that having been justified by His grace we should become heirs according to the hope of eternal life.”
