I’m a writer.
Not because I have a certain list of qualifications. Not because enough people agree that I am one.
I’m a writer because I write.
That’s it.
Impostor syndrome is a real thing, but the truth of the matter is that we are what we do.
If you want to be a painter, start painting. If you want to be designer, start designing. “Good,” “respectable,” “skilled”—these are all labels that can come in time as we practice the craft. But it’s silly to think that you can’t be considered a writer until you’re good at it.
You are what you do.
Same thing with being a follower of Christ.
You want to be a Christian? Then go do the things a Christian does. Study your Bible, talk with God, work on doing the things He tells you to do in His word.
“Good,” “respectable,” “skilled”—these are all labels that can come in time as we practice the craft. But it’s silly to think that you can’t be considered a Christian until you’re good at it.
A Christian follows Christ. If you want that to be your identity, keep leaning into it.
You are what you do—so go do what you want to be.
